Coping Mechanisms

We are complex animals living complex lives in which we are not always able to cope with the difficulties that we face.

What is a Coping Mechanism?
An adjustment to stress that is based on conscious or unconscious choice and enhances control over behavior or gives comfort. It helps to relax/calm one down.

Coping mechanisms by type:

Adaptive mechanisms: That offer positive help.
Attack mechanisms: That push discomfort onto others.
Avoidance mechanisms: That avoid the issue.
Behavioral mechanisms: That change what we do.
Cognitive mechanisms: That change what we think.
Conversion mechanisms: That change one thing into another.
Defense mechanisms: Freud's original set.
Self-harm mechanisms: That hurt our selves.

A majority(lot) of the time, people find that writing is a way of escape. Especially those who suffer with depression.
Writing works in a similar way to cutting, but instead of the illusion of letting the pain out through blood, you're expressing and letting it out via paper and ink through wording.
Poetry and Story Writing are perfect examples.
I believe that we find these ways of coping because of the feeling of freedom we have when we write.

Art is also a great way to express yourself.
It works the same way as writing, but instead of words, you're letting your pain, angst or confusion out through pictures.

There are many different forms of Roleplaying.
It can be found via Drama, Gaming and Chat-based sites and the ways of going about it are all very similar.

In acting, Roleplaying means to take on the role of another person.
RP is the body and heart of Drama/Acting.
Example: 1) "I was picked for the role of Alice from Alice In Wonderland"
The person here would now have to play the role of Alice, not acting like the real her.

In Gaming, Roleplay is pratically the same.
Players assume the roles of characters in a fictional setting. Players take responsibility for acting out these roles within a narrative, either through literal acting, or through a process of structured decision-making or character development.
An example of a RP game is: Legend Of Zelda

The chat form of roleplay is pratically the same, but instead actions are "role-played" via chat.
There are many different forms of chat-based roleplay some of which have so many rules it's beyond riduclious.
A lot of people tend to roleplay the people they wish they could be.
Escaping reality for a while.
It's almost as if you're writing an interactive story in which others join in on and the polt is never set in stone.

Example:

Cerii Cerunnos-

-The small female brought a slender hand to her lips to stiffle the yawn that she felt coming-

(The below is taken from a respone given to a question asked on Yahoo Answers, which I found absolutely fantastic)

I define music as sound that pleases, uplifts, nurtures and inspires my senses. I find music in many aspects of day to day surroundings, for eg; Frogs croaking in the forest are music to my senses, a water fall splashing is music. A carpenter tapping timber with a hammer is music, children laughing is music. An orchestra playing is music and the hum of a well tuned V-twin engine is music.

To me ; music is universal language that talks to every part of our being, our mind, body and soul. To me ; music is a doorway that lets our spirit travel. To me ; music is an electricity that charges every cell in our body's. To me ; music is nutrition for our heart.

Music is a life force that helps everything to grow.
Music is a way of expressing what words cannot.
Music is an essential spice to life.
MUSIC MEANS I'M ALIVE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an amazing defination of the way music effects the indivigual...don't you agree guys?
I couldn't have put it a better way myself (:
